Female Genital Mutilation: The silent oppression of Women
Jeffrey Mozgala, BS, BSN, RN, MSN-FNP Student

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is estimated to affect 200 million women worldwide, which is predominantly practiced in Middle East and Africa. It  The purpose of this experiment was to exam the knowledge, attitudes, and moralized beliefs of these  women residing in these countries towards FGM by reviewing and synthesizing concurrent research.

Impairment of insulin signaling in rat hepatocytes that over suppress glycerol-3-phosphate aclytransferase-1

Janai Gaston

Obese people are predisposed to have insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, but the exact molecular mechanism remains unknown. To determine why incresead glycerolipid synthesis leads to insulin resistance, they increased glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase-1.

Counting Wildlife With Lasers
Z.Jean, G. Dzikunu

Counting the monarch butterflies was via the usage of a FARO scanner, which is used to   reconstruct the natural environment of species and derive data. It generated a 3D reconstruction of animal clusters to estimate the amount of butterflies on the tree using the Subtractive Volume Method(SVE).

The infected virus on water -MS2
Sabrina

The research focused on different water samples. Janai infected the different water samples with a MS2 bacteriophage. MS2 is an icosahedral single strand RNA virus. She incorporated various bacteria and infected them with MS2 for seven days, prior to filtration. The water samples were collected from different rivers or lakes, and infected with MS2. In conclusion, the virus MS2 can affect the families of enterobacteriaceae and staphylococcus araceae. In the future, Janai will be using PCR to identify these bacteria  and classify the origins of their families.

The Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Diphenylmethoxypiperidines

Dr.Jill Keith

Diphenylmethylpiperidine,  is also known as deoxypipradrol. It is piperdine stimulant based on a drug that is  related to methylphenidate and pipradol. These reason for studying this compound is to detect the  chemical imbalances in neurotransmitters such as dopamine synthesis of small molecules so they can target specific areas. This research focuses on drug addictions. Lastly, she discussed how Ritalin is overused but how it can also be used for good things as well.
